On the afternoon of January 20, a unique “village gala” was held in Hangka Miao Village, La’ershan Town, Fenghuang County, attracting many villagers. Meanwhile, it was also livestreamed on Douyin, with more than 7.8 million online viewers.
As the Spring Festival approaches, the event of “holding a village gala” has been launched. The “village gala”, initiated by a local band in Xiangxi, was the first one of the event, showcasing people’s happy life through programs created by themselves.
The four members of the band born in the 1990s are all from Fenghuang County. They integrate Miao language and Miao customs into popular songs. Previously, they worked in factories or were butchers. Later, they chose to stay in their hometown to do music live streaming.
The original songs sung by the band at this gala depict the unique folk customs of Miao young people expressing their love and their characteristic wedding customs.
